ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER – FULL TIME

The Isle of Man Athletics Association is a forward thinking, progressive association that oversees a multiple faceted structure of athletics in the Isle of Man.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the Association as the Athletics Development Officer for the Isle of Man. Our plan is to significantly increase the number of people engaged in all aspects of athletics, whatever their background for recreational, performance and wellbeing together with supporting the structure through volunteering, officiating and coaching.

Salary – Based on experience
Hours – 40 per week
Period – Initial three year contract

As Development Officer you’ll play a key part in our efforts to deliver our strategy, continuously improve the experience, helping to ensure that activities provided are both enjoyable and safe. You’ll work directly with all of partners, commercial and otherwise to deliver this and raise the overall standards.

The ideal candidate will have a background in sport and a Higher Diploma/Degree level qualification in a sports related area or equivalent, and be passionate about sport. You will require experience in dealing with volunteers/organisations/athletics events in a support capacity.

In addition, excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills are required with a strong working knowledge of Excel, Word and Email. The ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. Time management skills are essential.  A level 2 UKA coaching licence or working towards this within an agreed timescale.

Head of Performance Required

Owing to the resignation of the current Head of Performance, the IOMAA is urgently seeking to appoint a new key team member.

Working on the Executive Committee of the IOMAA, the Head of Performance provides vision, leadership and management for the planning, implementation, funding, supervision and evaluation of elite athlete programmes within the IOMAA.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Heading the Performance sub-committee of the IOMAA, reporting monthly on its activities to the Exec Committee
  • Providing a point of contact for elite and other performance athletes, their coaches and families
  • Developing performance pathways for elite and development elite athletes
  • Developing performance funding programmes with the IOMAA Treasurer
  • Liaising with IOM Sport regarding IOM Sport Aid and IOM Sport Academy
  • Liaising with Commonwealth Games Committee, IOM Team Managers, Clubs and other interested parties.

Chimp Management Workshop: Improving Performance by Understanding the Mind

The CGA is holding another Chimp Management workshop on Saturday 8th July at the Sports Institute from 9:30 – 12:30.

This workshop would be useful for any team managers, coaches, athletes and support staff working towards Gold Coast 2018. Those working with athletes who have the potential to reach future Commonwealth Games may also find it useful.

Improving Performance by Understanding the Mind:
An opportunity to learn how to optimise the performance of yourself, your team or organisation through the powerful mind management model that has helped support the success of Olympic and Professional teams and athletes. The Chimp model is a mind management model based on the neuroscience of the brain. The workshop will aim to develop insight into the human mind and demonstrate skills to manage your own mind more effectively to improve sports performance and quality of life

New Secretary Urgently Required

Owing to the resignation of the current secretary, the IOMAA is urgently seeking to appoint a new key team member.

Working on the Executive Committee of the IOMAA, the secretary has responsibility for managing the agenda and taking and publishing the minutes of the bi-monthly IOMAA meetings along with the timely distribution of any emails to the general email inbox.  The secretary’s input into the meetings is very welcome.

This is not an onerous position and should take no longer than 2 hours a week.

Strength and Conditioning Session Coordinator Required.

Isle of Man Athletics urgently require the help of someone to coordinate the strength and conditioning sessions offered through the Isle of Man Sports Institute.

A block of eight strength and conditioning sessions have been booked starting next week (practice week) but we require someone to take on the responsibilities of organising these sessions going forward.

Please note that this is an organisational role which does NOT require specific S&C knowledge.

The role includes:

  • Liaising with IOM Sport and booking the sessions at the institute
  • Promoting the sessions to the athletes (through social media, email etc.)
  • Organising the athletes to attend

Delia Fairclough who is stepping down from the role will provide a full handover.
