SPARkling Future for Island Athletes

Mannin Retail (SPAR) are delighted to announce that they will be sponsoring the Isle of Man Track and Field Championships 2019.

Proudly supporting the development of athletics across the Island, the Company will offer sponsorship to encourage more young people to participate in sport, and to consider a future within athletics.

Mannin Retail operate 17 SPAR stores across the Isle of Man and form part of Heron and Brearley Limited, a business rich in Island heritage, with its roots dating back to 1850.

Today, the Company operates as the island’s widest retail chain with SPAR community stores, forecourts, and in-store Post Offices.

IOM Track & Field Championships 2019

The 2019 Isle of Man Track & Field Championships sponsored by SPAR takes place at the NSC Douglas on August 3rd and 4th.

Please download your Entry form now, complete and return to: Kelly Hillier, 6 Close Cowley, Douglas, Isle of Man. IM2 2HX along with your entry fees:

U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, JUN  only £2.50 per event.
SEN £4.00 per event.

Please note U9’s, U11’s, U13’s, U15’s & U17’s may only compete in 3 events per day. Jun Men & Women may only compete in 4 events per day. All Athletes under the age of 15, may only compete in one distance race per day (inc Race Walks)

Isle of Man 10,000m Track Championships – Results

Tom Partington won the Race walk in a big PB of 43 mins 56.9 secs. Adam Cowin in second also produced a great PB 45.19.3 with Dave Walker in third place 56.40.8. In the women’s event Hannah Hunter took the honours in 52.06.4 with Jayne Farquhar and Marie Jackson having a race long duel to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively in 60.51.2 and 60.56.9.

Alan Corlett won the run in a PB of 31.23.4 with Jamie Beaman smashing his best ever to come second in 35.31.7. Newcomer to the sport Louis Morris came a fine third in 36.23.0. In the Women’s event Elissa Morris ran well to finish in 37.55.4, a track PB, while Gail Griffiths and Ciara Hardisty pushed each other all the way with Gail coming out on top for second place in 40.18.9 from Ciara’s 40.28.0.

There were also 5km and 3km races within the 10kms with some fine performances recorded. Full results can be seen in the attached and a full report will appear in this week’s Manx Independent.

30 athletes took part in the event and an impressive 26 track PBs were recorded.

Isle of Man 10,000m Track Championships – Walk and Run

Athletes are invited to enter the Isle of Man 10,000m Track Championship – Walk and Run at the NSC track on Monday 1st April.

Entries will be taken on the day of the event from 5pm at the track if the weather is good. The cost of entry is £5 for all ages and events. If the weather is poor entries will be taken in Manx Harriers Clubhouse. Entries will close at 6.30pm.

In order to enter club kit must be worn and also each athlete must have their England Athletics registration card with them to prove they are registered to take part.

The first race off will be the walk at 6pm followed by the run at 7.15pm. Walkers are advised that there is a 75 minute cut off for their event.

Championship medals will be presented for the 10,000m events, these are open events and so age group medals will not be presented. However, if athletes wish to run a 3km, or 5km, then this will be possible and must be stipulated at registration. Please note, no medals or prizes are available for the 3km or 5km your accurate track time will be the reward.

In the 10,000m athletes must be Under 20 age group or older to take part, in the 5,000m Under 17 age group and upwards and in the 3,000m under 15 and upwards to compete.

Cross Country Presentation – Friday 22 March 2019

A reminder that the presentation evening for the Law Trust sponsored Isle of Man Cross Country League and Championships will take place at the Claremont Hotel on Loch Promenade in Douglas on Friday 22 March. The trophies and finishers awards for the league, and the medals for the Championships, will be presented.

As in previous years, the presentation will be in two parts. From 7pm (doors will open a few minutes before) we will make the presentations to the under-nine, u11 and u13 age groups. Then after a short interval to allow the youngsters and their parents to leave and the older competitors to arrive, the presentations for all age groups from u15 upwards will begin at 8.30pm.

A light buffet will be provided and the bar will be open – please come along and enjoy the evening! Competitor numbers taking part in cross country have been excellent this season, and no fewer than 205 individuals have won at least one prize! These include team medals for the Championships which were held at Crossags in January.
