Isle of Man Athletics Team: Gotland 2017 Island Games

The Isle of Man Athletics Association is pleased to announce the 26 track and field and road running athletes who will compete for the Isle of Man at the XVII NatWest Island Games being held in Gotland, Sweden from 24th June – 30th June 2017.

Island Games Champions Catherine Reid, Hannah Riley and Rachael Franklin will seek to retain their Island Games crowns in Gotland having triumphed in Jersey 2015, with the Isle of Man Team also defending the Ladies Half Marathon Team and 4 x400m Relay titles.

Jersey medalists Kevin Loundes, Andy Barron and Hannah Howard also return and will again compete in the Half Marathon, Bethan Pilley will compete in the long jump while Alan Corlett will look to regain his 2013 title in the 3000m steeplechase.

Athletics Team Manager Anthony Brand said: “I’m very excited by this group of athletes and what I think we can achieve in Gotland.”

“There’s a real blend of experience and exciting new talent, with the likes of Island Games medalists, Joe, Catherine, Rachael, Hannah and Kevin, selected alongside those becoming Island Games athletes for the first time, like Rhys Owen, David Mullarkey, Elissa Morris and Ashleigh Lachenicht.”

“This is a very well prepared and strong team.  We believe the performances this group can achieve will see us challenging for a number of places on the podium at this games and in the future”

Isle of Man Junior Championship Pentathlon – Results

The Isle of Man Athletics Association held an open Junior Pentathlon Championship on 3rd September 2016 at the NSC, Douglas.  The conditions were far from ideal but everyone did really well.  Here are the results.

The event is open to U13 and U15 athletes who meet the following criteria:

Under 13 Boy or Girl        11 or 12 at Midnight at 31st Aug/1st Sept 2016
Under 15 Boy or Girl        13 or 14 at Midnight at 31st Aug/1st Sept 2016

PLEASE NOTE – YOU MUST DECLARE YOUR INTENTION TO COMPETE AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE START OF THE COMPETITION.  Registration is expected to open at 9.30 a.m. on 3rd September 2016 the first event will start at 10.00 a.m.  Please check IOMAA website for updates on timings.  Medals will be presented to first three in each category.

Team Managers Wanted for Commonwealth Games

The Isle of Man Commonwealth Games  is requesting names for consideration as Managers for both The Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017 being held in the Bahamas 17/24 July 2017 and the Commonwealth Games in 2018 being held in Gold Coast Australia 4/15 April 2018.

Applicants will  need to be available before and after for travel to and from the Games.

It is expected that the roles will be appointed this Autumn. Male and female managers are asked to apply with the Bahamas Games requiring both a male and female alternates as the gender of nominations will not be known until selection time.

Attendance at the Games is dependent upon selection of athletes.

Achieving these standards does not automatically guarantee nomination or selection: competitive record and proof of fitness will be equally important.

Athletes selected must have been born in 2000 and 2001 (Age 16 or 17 in year of competition -1st January – 31st December). 

Legal wind readings required for sprints up to 200m / sprint hurdles and jumps events.
