BENEFITS FOR ALL
WHY JOIN A CLUB?

Joining an athletics club on the Isle of Man offers numerous benefits for athletes of all ages and abilities. Foster your personal and athletic growth, with a community supporting every athlete’s journey, regardless of their level or goals.

Clubs provide access to structured training sessions led by experienced and qualified coaches. This support helps athletes develop their skills, set personal goals, and improve overall performance across a variety of disciplines, from track and field to road running and cross-country to race walking.

Being part of a club offers a welcoming community of like-minded people. It’s a great way to meet others with similar interests, build friendships, and foster a sense of camaraderie. Regular social events and training nights/competitions strengthen these bonds.

Club membership often includes access to local facilities, such as the National Sports Centre in Douglas, where members can train on the island’s only all-weather track and the NSC Raceway. Clubs also provide access to specialised equipment that can aid in training and performance, such as: pole vault, high jump, hurdle, sprint blocks, and throwing equipment etc.

Membership with an Isle of Man athletics club includes affiliation with UK Athletics (UKA), offering athletes additional benefits such as insurance coverage, eligibility to compete in UKA-sanctioned events, and access to resources and training opportunities within the UK.

Every registered member receives a unique registration number and access to an individual profile within the Isle of Man Athletics registration system. Each athlete also has an individual profile linked to the Power of 10 and Run Britain, enabling tracking of performance, achievements and rankings.

Members are eligible for reduced fees on coaching courses within the formal coach education pathway, including Leadership in Running Fitness, Coaching Assistant, Athletics Coach, and Coach in Running Fitness qualifications.

Membership allows athletes to compete in club-hosted events and other competitions across the Isle of Man and beyond. Athletes in first-claim clubs like Manx Harriers, Western AC, or Northern AC may also be eligible for selection to represent the island in leagues such as the Youth Development League (YDL) and Northern League (NL).

Clubs offer pathways for athletes to progress from beginner to high-performance levels. With support from knowledgeable coaches and a high-performance structure, talented athletes can work towards competing at national and international events.

Regular training improves physical health, and supports mental well-being. Joining a club provides motivation to stay active, with a routine that benefits overall fitness and reduces stress.

Isle of Man clubs emphasise inclusivity, welcoming athletes from age 7 upwards and of all abilities. This open environment ensures everyone has the opportunity to participate, whether aiming for personal fitness, skill improvement, elite competition, or to simply have fun!
Most competitions give members a discounted rate to enter events.

Members gain access to national and regional events, seminars, conferences, and technical workshops designed to support coaches, officials, athletes, and volunteers within the sport.

Members are also eligible for exclusive offers from British Athletics events.

Clubs often provide opportunities to get involved in coaching, officiating, and event organisation, allowing members to contribute to the sport in meaningful ways. This can be particularly beneficial for members interested in sports management, coaching, or leadership roles within athletics.
