OFFICIATING OPPORTUNITIES

AT THE HEART OF ATHLETICS
GET INVOLVED: OFFICIATING

Officials play a vital role in the smooth running of events at every level, from grassroots competitions to elite performances. By becoming an official, you’re directly contributing to the success of the sport and helping to nurture the next generation of athletes. It’s also a great way to stay connected with athletics if you’re a former athlete or passionate supporter of the sport.

As an official, you’ll have access to ongoing training and development opportunities, including specialised courses and workshops designed to enhance your skills and knowledge. Your dedication won’t go unnoticed—initiatives like the Altenar Volunteer Award Scheme recognise and celebrate the commitment and progress made by our volunteer officials.

Beyond the practical skills, officiating is a chance to get involved in the local athletics community. You’ll meet like-minded individuals, and enjoy the camaraderie of working alongside athletes, coaches, and other volunteers. Officiating also offers unique experiences, from being at the heart of national competitions to potentially assisting in international events, where you’ll gain valuable insights from experienced professionals.

England Athletics provides a structured route into officiating, with recognised qualifications, training programmes, and resources to support your development. Whether you’re new to officiating or looking to advance your experience, there are plenty of opportunities to grow and make a real impact in the Isle of Man’s athletics community.

If you’re new to athletics and want to explore the world of track and field officiating, the Assistant Official course is a great starting point. For those who already have a clear area of interest, you can jump straight into the Level 1 Track and Field Officials award, which covers a range of specific disciplines.
