SAFEGUARDING & WELFARE

ATHLETE WELFARE IS
AT THE HEART OF WHAT WE DO.

Find key safeguarding contacts in athletics, training opportunities, and guidance from UK Athletics and England Athletics policies.

We are committed to a zero-tolerance policy on safeguarding, and we appreciate the support of our clubs and Welfare Officers in creating the safest possible environment for athletics in the Isle of Man.

The Isle of Man Safeguarding Procedures outline important details regarding Child Protection and Adult at Risk policies and procedures.

CLUB WELFARE OFFICER TRAINING
Isle of Man Athletics offers Club Welfare Officer courses throughout the year. Information about upcoming courses will be available on this page and in the Course Calendar.

While we recognise that some Club Welfare Officers may have prior safeguarding experience from other sectors such as education or health, Isle of Man Athletics has opted for consistent training standards across all clubs. This ensures every Welfare Officer receives the same level of training, as required in the mandatory Club Standards for club affiliation.

If your club has a new Welfare Officer or if your current Welfare Officer has not completed the course within the last three years, please ensure they register, as this training is a required part of club affiliation.

This training provides in-depth safeguarding knowledge to help Welfare Officers fulfill their responsibilities within an athletics setting. The course covers your role and responsibilities within the sporting context and ensures you are familiar with the sport-specific reporting processes—essential information for anyone in this role.

The course is delivered online in a Virtual Classroom and is designed for all nominated Club Welfare Officers. The cost of the course is £35.
