The Youth Development League (YDL) is a fantastic opportunity for young athletes to experience team-based track & field competition, represent the Isle of Man, and develop their skills across a range of events.
The YDL is a UK-wide inter-club league designed specifically for developing athletes, providing a structured competition pathway and a chance to compete against other teams in a supportive, team-focused environment.
Who is it for?
The league is split into age groups:
- Lower Age Group: U14 & U16
- (Upper age groups exist in the UK structure, but Isle of Man participation typically focuses on younger athletes)
Athletes will have the opportunity to compete in a wide variety of events including:
- Sprints and hurdles
- Middle-distance races
- Jumps (long jump, high jump, etc.)
- Throws (javelin, shot, discus, etc.)
This multi-event format helps athletes gain experience, try new disciplines, and contribute to the overall team score.
What to expect
- A series of league matches across the season
- Team-based competition where every performance counts
- Opportunities to try different events and develop all-round athletic ability
- A fun, supportive environment that builds team spirit and confidence
YDL is all about development—athletes are encouraged not only to compete in their strongest events but also to step outside their comfort zone and support the team.
